54. BEN YOUNG
Ben Young is a self-taught glass sculptor who has exhibited alongside well-known glass artists in New Zealand and internationally, with sell out solo shows in New York, Auckland and Singapore.
Young’s sculptural works are hand-crafted from clear sheet float glass, concrete, steel and bronze with no computer aids or high-tech machinery used. Young plays with the irony between the solid materials he uses and the organic subjects he creates. Once complete, light is the final crucial element in his work - when lit, an illusion of space, movement and depth is created.
As an avid surfer it is not surprising that coastal landscapes and the ocean are recurring motifs.

55. BRIAR YORK
Briar York’s art is a visual exploration of the beauty and complexity of our relationship with the natural world. With mixed media she uses bold colors, texture and intricate details, to create vivid and dynamic paintings. Her style and themes can capture a feeling within, blending of elements, fun memory, or view to remember. Briar’s dance and drama background often finds its way to her canvas through unhinged brushstrokes and spontaneous markings which add to the originality and flavour of each composition. She captivates first with colour, then invites you in to pause and connect, encouraging curiosity and delight.

Stella draws inspiration from nature and the coast that surround us.
The paintings are created with gestural mark making, textures and plenty of colour.
Mixed Media (graphite pencils, inks, oil sticks, acrylic paints, mediums) is used in a vigorous way to create tactile, textural, large scale paintings on canvas or ply that explore interactions with nature.
Stella works in an intuitive way striving for a unique piece. Usually layered and impasto however sometimes the work is created with washes or sanded back to create weathered effects.
She also paints large abstract and is available for commissions and has a range of Limited Edition prints.

67. TIMO RANNALI
Timo has worked as a full time artist for 23 years.
His genre can be described as "stylised realism with a naive bent". The design elements are usually exaggerated and colours are always vibrant. The main aim behind his work is to celebrate life and people's interaction with the environment. His compositions tell stories. Timo's designs capture a wide vista, akin to a fish-eye view, so the narrative is easily conveyed. Almost all his work is done on a commission basis capturing client's personal stories.
BOP Open Studios provides an opportunity for the general public to see his work.
